Flybe’s thrice daily air service between Cardiff and London commenced on Monday 12th September giving South Wales businesses a new and convenient route into the heart of London.
Depending on when you travel and book, single fares start at £25 and the flight takes under an hour.
The commencement of this 7 day service (2 return flights on the weekend) offers travellers from South Wales an alternative to the journey by train which has become longer now that the Severn Tunnel is closed for 6 weeks for engineering works as part of the electrification of the London – South Wales Main Line.
South Wales Chamber’s Cardiff Capital Region Council member Callum Couper travelled on the inaugural at 0800 on Monday 12th September and commented;
“I live and work in South Wales and often travel to London for meetings. Once I’d parked at the airport I was through check-in and onto the aircraft in 35 minutes and by half past nine was at London City Airport rail station ready to travel into the City.”
“The new air service provides fast and affordable travel between the two capital cities and this addition to London travel options from South Wales should be of real benefit to the business community”
Flybe intend to continue this service at least until the Severn rail tunnel’s planned reopening on 21st October however both Flybe and Cardiff Airport have stated that sufficient demand could make the service permanent.
